Is your job what you have dreamed??

If you ask to a kid "what you want to be when you grow up", they will probably reply you to be a teacher ,doctor,pilot,astronaut.. How many people working in their dreamed jobs? or i am not sure if there is such a lucky person. I studied economics, had master in financial markets and currently work for a bank. Am i happy? is this what i wanna be? i really dont know nowadays. I query myself too much recently, about my life, what i wanna be.. I am 26 but i am still not sure.. everyday i wake up at 6.30 am.,take 3 busses and going work in 1,5 hour and is it worth?? what if i quit? what i am gonna do?i dont know .. do i enjoy with my job as much as cooking, or if i was a chef/cook, would i be happy that time?? This kinda questions in mind.. I dont know everybody ask this questions to theirself time to time.. If you lived same feelings, share with me please..

  1. I have a very similar background to yours, in fact the exact same education. I have to say that I am very fortunate because I am happy with my work. I think the reason for this is because I deliberately focused on a segment of the industry that was most interesting and challenging to me, and I ran with it, even though it's near impossible to get the sorts of jobs I've had. If you really are passionate about something you will find the way (and there is always a way) to get what you want, provided you're honest with yourself and you want it for the right reasons. If you aren't happy it might be b/c you've settled. It's easy to just take the first offer you're handed out of school and then the rest of your career becomes defined by that when you might have taken it for the wrong reasons (it's the 'best' bank or it was the highest offer, etc). You seem to be passionate about cooking and you're going for it with your blog. Keep at it, do it from the heart and maybe work on a cookbook on the side. Eventually you will be able to make your living doing what you are truly passionate about. Nature rewards he who knows himself and who fights tirelessly for what's right.

  2. I think there are a lot of things I would enjoy, and as I am older than you I am still looking and thinking and dreaming. Not sure if that stops, even when you like what you do (as I do).

  3. I am lucky. I wanted to be a teacher and I became one. Then I really wanted to be a literacy coach-- someone who works with teachers to help them implement best teaching practices-- and now I am a literacy coach. Now, along that journey, there were many days that I wondered, is this REALLY what I want? Am I happy?

My job is demanding, challenging, and it makes me question myself and what I think every day, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I also get to see amazing things every single day. The more I question, the more it gets me thinking.

I also always hoped to be some type of fitness instructor and I just got licensed to teach Zumba this summer and am starting my first class in 2 weeks!

I think that, at 32, I am just starting to realize some of the things I REALLY want to do and I am starting to go do them.

    Great topic!

  6. Love your post, I think most of us foodies are frustrated chefs, ....I am.

But I do love my job, and its definitely worth it, but what I think is important that you don't abandon your dreams and aspirations, its not about living childhood dreams but doing what your heart dictates at the level it dictates.

So if you feel passionate about doing anything, just do it, start slow and work your way until you are satisfied, no need to push more than that.

PS love your blog! greetings form Mexico

  7. I know exactly how you feel. I am not in banking, but I am doing the job I went to school for and at 26 feel completed unhappy with my career choice. I find that I am happiest while in the kitchen or researching recipes, so I have looked into going to culinary school but worry about whether that would be the right change I am looking for or not. If you know you are definitely passionate about something though you should go for it, you've got 40 more years of work so you want to be happy doing it! Hope that helps!

  8. Hi Yesim,

For me, I follow my passion although you're highly paid but that doesn't interest you, definitely you won't be happy doing it. So go for it, be happy and dedicated whatever you've chosen..

  9. When I was young I wanted so badly to be a nurse because I read Cherry Ames books. I went to nursing school and hated it immediately so left after one year and majored in literature. I started working in web design and internet technology. I love the creative aspects of designing web sites, but now I'm even tired of doing that. I love to cook and would love to a job that involved cooking and writing about it (like blogging, but for pay).

  11. I am working on my last year of college and have already signed on for a job starting this summer. Right now I feel like I'm settling, but then I ask myself what is it that I really want to do? What I really want is a family... and that will have to wait for a few more years. In the mean time I should focus on making money and memories to make my ultimate dream come true.

I think from reading these responses it tells me I'm not the only one out there uncertain.
